Political analysts during the recently concluded elections for Member of Parliament listed a number of factors that led to most of the Ministers losing out on the Member of Parliament sit in their constituencies. Among them was that most of these were old and all the people wanted was young blood, the other was that for a long time as Minister’s, these people failed to do ground work that benefits the people of their constituencies and most popular reason was the the National Unity Platform (NUP) wave swept the big politicians especially in Buganda region
Among those who lost were Judith Nabakooba, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Kibuule Ronald, Minister of State for Water, Dr Elioda Tumwesigye, Minister of State for Technology, Kibazanga Christopher,Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Kasirivu Atwooki Baltazar Kyamanywa, Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Hon Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, the State Minister for Microfinance.
As we approach the swearing in of the President that is scheduled to take place on May 12th, a team of political reporters went down to different constituencies and gathered information that could give a small clue on who they think deserves to serve as Minister in the next term after swearing in.
Hon Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune
Hon Haruna Kasolo was appointed Minister of Micrfinance in June 2016 and has also been serving as the Parliamentary Representative of Kyotera. Ever since he became Minister, Hon Haruna Kasolo has done many good things for the people of Kyotera. He founded Kasolo Foundation, an NGO that has helped people in not only Kyotera but also neighouring areas like Masaka. Most of these have benefitted from the Minister interms of getting jobs and acquiring skills to become job creators.
Hon Kasolo has recently been known for Championing emyooga, Emyooga initiative that is funded by Government of Uganda and is run by Hon Kasolo has helped very many people regardless of race and their backgrounds. Having lost Member of Parliamentary sit in the recently concluded elections, it is said that what he has done for Kyotera and Uganda as Minister of Microfinance is enough
Hon Amelia Kyambadde
Hon Amelia Kyambadde who has been the Minister of Trade and Cooperatives was recently voted out by the people of Mawokota North to give way for NUP’s Hillary Kiyaga who is a singer with the AKA Dr Hilderman. First things first, Kyambadde as Minister has helped very many youths in Mawokota North and among them was Kiyaga who stood against him in the recently concluded elections and won him. Hon Kyambadde has over the years supported Kiyaga’s music career injecting in sums of money since the time he contracted him to do the Amelia song that helped her win the Member of Parliament for Mawokota North. As Minister in the next Presidential term, Hon Kyambadde could still be of help to traders in terms of fighting for their rights when it comes to taxes and other restrictions that hinder them from doing business.
Hon Nakiwala Florence Kiyingi
Hon Nakiwala Florence Kiyingi who is the Minister of State for Youth and Children’s Affairs since 2016 when she was appointed by President Museveni on June 6th. As Minister, Hon Nakiwala has helped in resolving high and low profile domestic violence cases in Uganda and this has made her gain love and trust by the people in Uganda to the point that they are always travel miles and kilometres to meet her in her office that is always open to anyone.
She has helped adolescent girls overcome their problems by engaging into different talks that help change their mindset. Even having lost the Member of Pariament seat to NUP’s Veronicah Nanyondo in Bukomansimbi, it doesn’t mean she has failed to execute her duties as Minister in her constituency and the entire Uganda.
