State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, has broken his silence on the ongoing scandal involving socialite and events promoter Don Chris, who is accused of defrauding hundreds of Ugandan youths under the guise of securing them visas abroad.

This follows a revelation by the Uganda Police, which stated that Don Chris allegedly conned approximately 350 individuals, collecting a total of Shs 1.4 billion through false promises of travel and employment opportunities overseas.
Speaking out on the matter, Minister Balaam confirmed that affected victims had personally stormed his office seeking justice. “The youths came to my office and demanded answers,” he said.
In an attempt to mediate, Balaam revealed that he had directly reached out to Don Chris.
“I called Don Chris and he sent his lawyer and team. We talked, and I advised him to look for money and refund these people. He asked for one week but failed to fulfill the commitment,” Balaam disclosed.
Instead of honoring the repayment agreement, Balaam says Don Chris fled the country, prompting him to intervene further.
“I took it upon myself and contacted the CID Director to help trace Don Chris and ensure these young people get justice.”
Minister Balaam affirmed that relevant authorities are now actively pursuing Don Chris and working on bringing him back to Uganda to face the charges. “The responsible bodies will do their work and return Don Chris to the country to answer these allegations,” he stated.
