Excitement is growing high among the local football fraternity ahead of the charity match between the Uganda all-star and Barcelona Legends slated for this Saturday, 12th December at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
The Uganda all-star side which is under the charges of KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi reunited on Monday for their first training session and with some Barcelona legends already in the country (Edgar Davids and Simao Sabrosa plus another 14-man contingent) the zeal for the stars to impress is quite high.
Mutebi urged the stars to spearhead football development in the country and also aspire for administrative positions in the sport.
An 18-man squad is already training with match day captain David Obua present.
Squad that trained; Sadiq Wassa, Salim Jamal, Abubaker Tabula, George Ssemwogerere, Nestroy Kizito, Geoffrey Kizito, Tonny Mawejje, Hakim Magumba, Vincent Kayizzi, Steven Bengo, David Obua, Geofrey Sserunkuma, Ibrahim Buwembo, Mike Sserumaga, James Odoch, Phillip Obwinyi and Mudde Musa.
Barcelona legends squad expected; Francesco Coco, Gianluca Zambrotta, Carles Puyol, Juliano Belleti, Gaizka Mendietta, Edgar Davids, Deco Anderson, Luis Souza, Patrick Kluivert, Albert Luque, Ludovic Guily, Luis Garcia, Luis Carreras, Julio Iglesias, Sergi Barjuan and Jesus Angoy.
The proceeds from the game will be dedicated to the establishment of the state of the art academy under the Rayco Garcia foundation who seek to discover football talent in the Uganda and also export it across borders.
Match tickets are being sold PayWay outlets, Total and Shell fuel stations plus several supermarkets across the country at Ordinary-30,000/= and VIP-150,000/=.
