Uganda opens the group stage qualification campaign on September 5 against Ghana in Kumasi before playing Guinea five days later in Namboole.

“In the last campaign we had 70 percent of our players not being active in their clubs, which cost us especially in the last game against Senegal,” Micho said last week.

“We need all our players to be active. We need to be fit in all aspects ahead of first our tie against Ghana,” added Micho.

Previously, some Cranes players like Dennis Onyango, Brian Umony, Hassan Wasswa and Tonny Mawejje have earned call-ups even when they have been inactive.

Utility player Wasswa played at the Championship of African Nations (Chan) inSouth Africa in January at a time he was not attached to a club.

The Cranes start training this week with the local-based players before they are joined by their foreign-based counterparts a week later.

“We have to take care of man managing in all possible ways in order to make our players physically fit, technically affective and tactically mature,” Micho said.

Micho will have a tough challenge dealing with the fitness of local-based players since the topflight league is yet to start.

Togo, with Emmanuel Adebayor as their deadliest player, are Uganda’s other Group E opponents.
