Having knocked Togo out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Micho Sredojevic has now set his sight on the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) that will be played in Rwanda from January 17 – 07 February, 2016.
The 46-year old reckons that Uganda have the potential to make it to the quarter finals of next year’s tournament following a draw on Sunday 15th at Serena Hotel in Kigali that seeded Uganda in Group D with familiar opponents – Zimbabwe, Zambia and a new face in Mali.
“Uganda played in 2011 but never scored from open play and lost all matches. We improved our record in South Africa and now we want to get out of the group in Rwanda and see what happens because when you reach quarter finals, everything is possible,” Micho told Airtelfootball.ug.
The Serbian however did not comment on Uganda’s opponents as the Cranes go into their third successive tournament but mentioned that the team will be well prepared for the challenge.
Even when he didn’t echo out any specifics, Micho said that they are planning to have international friendlies with at least two nations that will soon be revealed.
“One thing for sure is that we’ll be among, if not one of, the best prepared teams for the competition in Kigali. We already have two international friendly games confirmed that we will be communicating to you soon.”
Uganda kicks off their campaign against West Africa giants of Mali on January 19th in Gisenyi.
