Uganda coach Micho Sredojevic spoke to local media for the first time this week since the Cranes were eliminated from the African Nations Championship (Chan) and reiterated that his side are now a much more mature group.
The Serb explained his road since replacing Bobby Williamson last May, through three World Cup qualifying ties – winning two and losing the other, never mind not progressing – to Cecafa and Chan before underlining his plans for the 2015 Nations Cup.
“Look, after the World Cup qualifying games we prepared for Cecafa and Chan,” said Micho, adding, “Like I have said, we have used these two tournaments as development tournaments.
“Like Cecafa, Chan (Uganda crashed out of the former in quarters and the latter in the group) has helped me identify certain players I will consider for the 2015 Nations Cup in Morocco.
“We played well against some of the best teams, Burkina Faso – the 2013 Nations Cup finalists, Zimbabwe with most of their players in the competitive South African League and Morocco, who are very good technically.
“Now I can say we have a good pool of players to work with for the 2015 campaign we will start preparations in March. From me, I’m extremely satisfied with every member of my team.
“We are targeting at least five friendlies on the respective Fifa dates before September when the qualifiers start.” The draws of next year’s Afcon were postponed to the end of April.
