Uganda head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has called upon the government through the Ministry of Education and Sports to act quickly and release the funds meant for the team ahead of their crucial game against Senegal.
Jessica Alupo, the Minister of Education and Sports, last week disclosed that they had committed over $130,000 for the Cranes’ preparations for the Senegal game and also catered for a chartered plane to take fans to Morocco and cheer the team.
The Cranes face Senegal on September 7th in a crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier on neutral ground in Marrakech, Morocco. Uganda need an outright victory to qualify for the next phase because the Teranga Lions of Senegal lead the group by a point.
“The government should be serious and release this money quickly because we have already embarked on training and yet we need allowances for the players as a motivator,” Micho told MTNFootball.com after the morning training session at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Micho said although he does not want to be a politician to push government to send this money, he does not see why, if the money was approved, it’s taking long to come through.
“Let the relevant authorities leave the element of bureaucracy and become effective,” he added.
Speaking about the reported injury to his defender Andy Mwesigwa during a league match in Kazakhstan, the coach said it is not a very serious knock and the player should be able to make the trip for the Senegal game.
“I have spoken to Andy and the injury is not that bad,” added the coach.
The Cranes skipper reportedly twisted his ankle in his team FC Ordabasy’s 3-1 loss to FC Astana, but managed to play until the end of the match.
