Michael Jackson fans win €1 damages for emotional suffering

micheal jMichael Jackson fans have won financial damages for ’emotional suffering’ endured after the singer’s death.

Five out of 34 plaintiffs were awarded €1 each from the court in Orléans, France, after suing Jackson’s former doctor Conrad Murray.

Murray was jailed in 2011 over the singer’s death from an overdose. Jackson was aged 50 when he passed away in 2009.

The court today (February 11) ruled that the five plaintiffs – two from France, two from Switzerland and one from Belgium – had proved emotional suffering.

Their lawyer Emmanuel Ludot told AFP: “As far as I know, this is the first time in the world that the notion of emotional damage in connection with a popstar has been recognised.”

However, he added that the damages were purely symbolic and that they would not be seeking to claim the €1 each from Murray.

The lawyer also said they hoped their status as recognised victims would help them gain access to Jackson’s grave site in Los Angeles, which is closed to the public.
