Mesach Semakula recently made a heart wrenching confession about fellow singer Ronald Mayinja.
During the recently concluded “Best of Ronald Mayinja” concert, Mesach halted his performance to tell his story with Ronald Mayinja.
Mesach hailed Mayinja for being a courageous man who dares to tackle several delicate issues in our society as evidently portrayed in his music, after which he went on to reveal how their friendship blossomed. “I met Ronald when we were both around 16 years old and still in high school. Despite studying in different schools, we remained very close and ventured into music together. It is a blessing we have both been successful,” he said.
Even when he now speaks highly of Mayinja, their friendship has not been all rosy. The two singers who are now best friends once shared strong animosity towards each other. Mesach confessed that he could never see eye to eye with Ronald Mayinja for over ten years even when they were singing together in the same band.
He said: “Even when we were working together, Ronald hated me very much. Haters had turned him against me. They said I envied his success and wanted to kill him. For 10 years, we never talked to each other.”
As fate would have it, despite their hatred, Mesach’s father fell in love with Mayinja’s music and even treated him like his own son. It’s his father’s love for Mayinja that made Mesach stand the hatred and continue to work with him. Eventually, Mayinja learnt the truth and realized that Mesach had never been his enemy. They reconciled and are now best friends.
