Meet the Ugandan Finalists for the Airtel Trace Music Star Competition.

Airtel Uganda will unveil the Airtel Trace Music Star Competition winner on the 14th February, 2015 at the Kampala Serena Hotel. Last year, Airtel Uganda partnered with Trace, an international music video channel, to launch a music competition tagged ‘Airtel Trace Music Star’. An Interactive Voice Response (IVR) based music competition designed to create a robust platform for Airtel subscribers to achieve their dreams of becoming the next big music star. The competition has been on going and there are now five finalists. Meet the five finalists.

Brenda Nantongo, a graduate of Mass Communication with a passion for music started her music career at the age of three. As a child, Brenda used to sing the Buganda national anthem to everyone who came to visit their home. In her university, she joined a music group during where she crafted her music talent before auditioning for the Airtel Trace Music Star competition. Brenda believes she can be Africa’s next superstar and she has the talent to show for it.

Dan Flavor aka Twesigye Daniel comes from a Christian background with a music influence from his father who is also a Pastor. Dan has had music experience and mentorship from some of Uganda’s top musicians. In 2012, he released a song (Rudi nyumbani) with Uganda’s music songstress Leila Kayondo.

Kiggundu Bruno Collins is a 23-year-old student of Journalism and Mass Communication at Ndejje University. Bruno started singing while in secondary school at Seroma Christian High School. Although he has recorded some songs, Bruno is yet to release a single song as he attributes it to the lack of funds. He has a passion for singing and he believes winning this competition will enable him support his family and music career.

Sandra Suubi Nakitto started her singing at a tender age. While at Gayaza High School, her love for music led her to join the school choir. In her senior six vacation, she joined the Novel Band and performed in many parts of the country. She has released a rendition of the song True Colours by Cyndi Lauper. Sandra believes that her music can touch lives in different ways and she is confident she has what it takes to win the Airtel Trace Music Star Competition.

Allan Toniks is a well-known musician with a couple of music hits to his name. As a child, his mother taught him how to play the rhythm guitar and it is here on that he discovered he had the talent to sing. In 2008 while in his senior six vacation, Allan released his first single (BeeraNange). Allan believes he can win the Airtel Trace Music Star Competition.

Speaking about the finalists, Airtel Uganda VAS and NPD Manager Musa Mayanja said: “At the start of this year, Airtel Uganda launched its “Happiness” campaign – where we intend to give back to our subscribers, through our products and services. “Airtel Trace Music Star” is going to give a chance to a gifted Ugandan to realize their dreams. “Airtel Trace Music Star” is paving the way to both Ugandan and international audiences for all our contestants and, eventual winner.”
