Guvnor Ace has redefined love; he has given a new definition to love. By the end of the month, this young and upcoming Ugandan artiste will have walked down the aisle with his lovely woman. But who is Guvnor Ace; does he truly love the woman? What is his background like?
Ronald Ssemawere aka Guvnor Ace was born in Entebbe Hospital and was to reside in Sseguku, a place along Entebbe road on the outskirts of Kampala. At the humble age of 9 years, he’d lost both his parents. Thus, his childhood was devoid of parental love; nonetheless he did not let this gap of pity to steal his dreams. To attest to his childhood background is Peng Peng, another popular blogger who shares experiences of his memories in Zzana.
Zzana, Nyanama and Sseguku are some of the places that have produced many of Uganda’s top musicians, including the Chameleone family members, Papa Cidy, King Saha, OS Ssuna just to mention but a few.
Having struggled through secondary school, the young man was not about to give up on achieving his Ugandan dream. Deep down, he knew that for most people, if you live long enough, you get what you desire in life. He worked hard as a brick-layer, saved enough money and ventured into the world of business. Thus, he was to acquire a stall in Owino, but the first fires didn’t spare him. All his capital vanished to ashes in these Owino fires.
Dejected, beaten and depressed after this loss, Guvnor Ace retreated to starting a library to rent out movies and to burn music CDs. He was to face another hurdle of the ever-increasing rent. But did he give up? Not yet.
Guvnor Ace now decided to take out a bodaboda loan and procure a boxer motorbike from Yamaha in Ndebba. He gave the bodaboda to a friend of his who was to ride it and bring him money at the end of every day of the week. Three weeks down the road, the friend brought sad news-the motorbike had been stolen.
Guvnor Ace used to have a sponsor; the sponsor helped him clear up the remaining amount on this bodaboda loan, and was willing to pay for his University tuition. As the saying goes, when problems fall, they come in form of torrential rains, this sponsor was diagnosed with late-stage cancer and was to pass away a month before University applications kicked off.
This same sponsor was the one who used to foot the school fees of his young sisters, a one Prossy and Milly. Family members proposed that the two sisters get sent off into marriage and the bride price to be used to send Guvnor Ace to University, he out rightly rejected the proposal.
Before taking on the stage name of Guvnor Ace, he used to go by the name of Ronnie Swagga and when all hope had been lost; he’d decided to try out his luck in the music industry. This decision was influenced by Chameleone who was his neighbour in Sseguku.
Guvnor Ace started off by running errands for Chameleone and crew members in Leone Island. The late AK 47 was one of those who utilized his services, sending him to buy cigarettes and some drinks. Daniella, Chameleone’s wife had also found someone to help her with simple house chores such as slashing the compound in Sseguku and buying charcoal on her behalf.
Because he was always soft-spoken, crew members of Leone Island always mistreated him, it took the protection of Chameleone who punished these crew members and stopped them from disrespecting Guvnor Ace. In fact, it was Chameleone who changed his name to Guvnor Ace from Ronnie Swagga. Chameleone referred to him as his governor because of how he helped manage his home and keep a check on what was needed at home and going to buy it from the shops.
During one of his tours with Chameleone, he fell in love with the queen of his heart, an old mzungu lady that many claim is older than his ‘mother.’ It is this Mzungu lady that has put back a real smile to Guvnor Ace’s face. The lady set up a hardware business for Guvnor Ace’s sisters and had even wanted to send them back to school.
One thing we are certain about is that Guvnor Ace has always been honest about his ways. In a world where many young men hide their sugar mummies, Guvnor Ace has continuously showed off his wife-to be to the public, both on social media and in real life.
So we ask, if the man has found love, why shouldn’t we be happy for him? Isn’t age just a number?
