Our style crush this week is Barbie Kyagulanyi. This ghetto first lady definitely knows how to get her A-game on, when it comes to her fashion. It’s not every day that you see a mum of three that can pull off a cropped top look. And that is why we give it up to this hot mama, for being stylish, sleek, and very sophisticated!
What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion to me is showing who you are through dressing. It is expressing how you feel about your self through what you wear. Fashion is standing out and making people associate what you wear with who you are. Fashion is finding a place in the ever changing world trends.
Tell us something we don’t know about your wardrobe?
My wardrobe is a collection of clothing from the most high class outlets in the world and the most down town cheaply selling clothing in Uganda. You can call it a katogo kind of wardrobe. It’s a collection of nice stuff from different stalls.
What is your fashion addiction?
Fortunately, I must say I don’t think I have a fashion addiction. I am as flexible as fashion itself.
What is your most prized fashion item, and for how long have you had it?
My most prized fashion items are my three Louis Vuitton bags that I’ve owned for about a year now. My husband bought them for me from the US, and that makes them pretty much special. Two of them are actually brown, so it really easy for me to match them with most of my outfits.
What are some of your fashion No-No’s?
Fashion No-No’s? A long slit to the butt on the back of a dress or skirt is a No-No. Plus, a shear top that exposes my nipples, an exaggerated cleavage. Generally anything that moves from being sexy to trashy is a No-No for me.
How much effort do you put in choosing your outfit?
I don’t put a lot of effort in choosing an attire. I am not very particular and my figure accommodates most designs. My body size makes it easy for me to find what to wear easily.
What is important to you; the look, make up, hair or the outfit?
The Hair and the attire matter to me most times. I could do just fine without make up but I wouldn’t stand being in public with the wrong hair and the wrong clothes.
What is your style secret?
I Change my wardrobe more often to try and match up with the changing fashion trends. I ask the people I live with and friends for their opinion on my clothing, their advice matters to me.
What are some of the irritating fashion blunders you notice with Kampala men?
Why would a potbellied man wear a body hugging t-shirt? I just wonder if they use their mirrors and take note of what the reflection the mirror shows.
Which celebrity’s wardrobe would you wish to get your styling skills on, and give a total revamp?
If only I’d get my hands on Margla’s wardrobe…..
Your emergency outfit?
That would definitely be a T-shirt, nice fitting jeans and flat converse shoes with a pony tail to match.
With the ever changing trends in fashion, how easy is it for your wardrobe to catch up, with this?
Although I love keeping up with the latest trends, there are those that definitely don’t catch my attention, and would never try on. I try to keep up once in a while with the ones I like.
Any fashion tips you would like to share?
Avoid looking trashy. Change your wardrobe once in a while, to keep up to date with the changing trends. Also seek out for comfort in whatever it is that you choose to wear. Use your conscience for a guide. Conscience never lies.
Shirt vs. cropped top, your pick?
T-shirt definitely! You would go anywhere anytime with a T-shirt.
