Ugandan music producer Lule Henry Mayanja, popularly known as Mayanja on the Beat is steadily carving out a name for himself in the country’s music industry with a sound rooted in Afrobeats, melody, rhythm and emotion.
Based in Uganda, Mayanja’s journey into music production began during his Senior Six vacation when he spent time at his uncle Pallaso’s studio. Watching the process of creating music from the studio gave him a new perspective on the industry and sparked a passion that would eventually shape his career.
“I got inspired and developed the love for the whole process. I believed I could do it too and the rest was history,” Mayanja recalls.
Unlike many artists who begin with singing before exploring production, Mayanja says he fell in love with production first. That early connection influenced his decision to pursue production as the foundation upon which he could build his own musical legacy.
Finding His Sound
Mayanja developed his production style by listening closely to different genres and songs, comparing their structures and sounds while paying attention to the cultural elements that influence music.
His production lane blends Afrobeats, melodic arrangements, rhythmic elements and emotional sounds, giving him a versatile approach when working with different artists.
‘Bikyuka’ Opens Doors
A major turning point in Mayanja’s career came in 2025 when he produced Bikyuka by Pallaso.
The song gained significant traction on TikTok and streaming platforms, introducing Mayanja’s production to a wider audience. The record became an important early milestone in his career and helped open doors for further collaborations.
Bikyuka was subsequently nominated for Best Inspirational Song at the Galaxy Zzina Awards 2025, adding an important accolade to the young producer’s growing résumé.
Working With Uganda’s Established Names
Since entering the industry, Mayanja has worked with several established and emerging artists, including Jose Chameleone, Pallaso, Weasel, Expect Xhavi, Sean Offixial, Cxj Powell, Remz and Calvin Ryta among others.
These collaborations have given him an opportunity to work across different musical styles while continuing to refine his identity behind the boards.
Mayanja has also graduated from the Swangz Music Production Academy, further strengthening his technical foundation as a music producer.
From Producer to Creative Identity
Mayanja is now entering a new chapter of his career with the release of a six-track EP featuring artists including Sean Offixial, Remz, Cxj Powell, Pallaso, Weasel and Jose Chameleone.
The project marks a significant shift in his journey. While he has largely been recognised for his work behind the scenes, the EP introduces Mayanja as a creative identity in his own right.
Rather than remaining solely the producer behind other artists’ records, he is using the project to showcase his creative direction collaborations and evolving sound.
Looking Ahead
Mayanja’s ambitions extend beyond producing individual records. He hopes to work with some of the biggest artists across Africa while continuing to develop a recognisable signature sound and build a catalogue that represents his growth as a creative.
He also hopes to use his experience to create opportunities for upcoming artists and producers, contributing to the next generation of African music makers.
From watching music being created at his uncle Pallaso’s studio during his S6 vacation to producing records that have earned industry recognition, Mayanja on the Beat is building a journey that goes beyond the studio, one that seeks to establish his own lasting legacy in African music.
