Cranes midfielder Tonny Mawejje is rallying his teammates to forget the disappointment in Madagascar and instead focus on putting things right this Saturday.
The Norwegian club FK Haugesund midfielder, where he is signed until the end of 2015, reckons energy should be channeled to the Nations Cup qualification return leg this Saturday than dwell on last weekend’s 2-1 away defeat.
Although the 27-year-old was in the Cranes team that lost 1-0 away to Senegal in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, Mawejje was also the architect as Cranes beat Liberia’s Lone Stars 1-0 and Angola 2-1 at Namboole in June, scoring winners in both.
“I would say whatever happened in Madagascar happened, period,” he said, adding, “We are just lucky that we have a second chance to make things right at Namboole.
“Second chances like this are rare in football. We still have a long way (to go) to start criticizing and blaming ourselves for the loss in Madagascar.”
Asked about his physical and mental form, Mawejje was his usual confident self.
“You know me. I don’t do a 50/50 job. If I am not ready I don’t tamper. Anyway I will give my best.”
Mawejje is famously remembered for personally pulling out of the trip to Liberia last June saying he was unfit.
Uganda need a 1-0 victory this Saturday to outrightly progress to the final round of qualification to Morocco 2015.
