When Maurice Kirya released his new album, Mwooyo, he also dropped a video for Never Been Loved off the newly released album. Never Been Loved, for the most part, was a kind of video that, sort of, re-established the art of video-making in this rather awesome country. It has enjoyed good airplay around the continent. Before we could recover from Never Been Loved, Maurice, in the process, released another video for Busaabala, also a track off his new album.
Firstly, Busaabala is the unusual comic tale about a girl, named Proscovia, Maurice was dating from the countryside. The tale, you have to believe, is quite funny and most of us have fond memories of such. And in the video, Maurice slips in the character of a lover-boy who is hunted by the girl’s father. The overprotective and equally jealous father would find them, slouched away on the couch, whispering sweet nothings to each other and at the sight of him, Maurice takes to the hills; running, bolting away. The father of the girl throws a shoe and you will see it dash past Maurice’s head. Here, you will have to give credit to the lads behind this video. What a piece of cinematography! They pay attention to detail, capturing the little bits; it feels like a movie Apocalypto; the whole hunting adventure. The father hires merciless goons who sprint after Maurice, through the shrubs; jumping off ditches. All this is captured on camera in an act of creativity. The Tabu-Flo dancers offer quite well-choreographed dance moves therein. Maurice joins them, dancing to the beat. The video is a kind you would want to re-watch. Good storyline. Good cinematography.
