The marketing practice in Uganda is set to be augmented, following the launch of the Uganda Marketers Society (UMS) which aims to advance the profession towards world-class standards.
UMS which started operations in April this year was unveiled on Tuesday, by Mr. John Paul Okwi, the first President Board of Governors, UMS, at a media briefing at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
“Until April this year, Ugandan marketers lacked an umbrella body through which they could interact, share experiences, discuss challenges and together, work towards professionalising their discipline. We have therefore established Uganda Marketers Society to close the prevailing gap, in our effort to advance the marketing practice to
acceptable world-class standards,” said Mr. Okwi.
He added that the vision of UMS is to be, the leading body of marketing practitioners inspired towards the development, promotion and application of world-class marketing leadership’. To attain this, UMS entered into a partnership with the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the global marketing professional trainer and member body, which will provide training and professional support to the society and its members. “I take this opportunity to encourage all marketers in Uganda to join UMS as we work together to better our profession,” Okwi said.
Commenting on the board’s immediate mandate, Pamela Abonyo, the Chairperson Board of Governors said, “UMS’ first job is to create a platform through which its members will interact on how to better shape their practice by learning from highly knowledgeable and experienced marketers in Uganda, and the world.”
She acknowledged the support of the leadership team and companies that have supported the established of UMS and pledged to ensure that the goals of UMS is accomplished through boundless leadership.
At the press conference, UMS also unveiled its’ corporate identity, the first Board of Governors, Honorary Council of Advisers and members of the secretariat.
The press launch of UMS was graced by top marketing professionals from different corporations spanning a variety of industries in the Ugandan economy symbolizing the importance of the body.
