Manchester United and Real Madrid sold out all 109,000 tickets for their pre-season friendly in under 24 hours.
The two heavyweights of European football will lock horns at the Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor today with former Red Cristiano Ronaldo expected to be fit to face his former club.
The crowd will be the biggest for a football match in the US, beating the 93,137 attendance for a friendly between Barcelona v LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena in 2009
United striker Wayne Rooney said: “It’s fantastic. The fanbase over here is great and it’s two massive clubs, two of the biggest clubs in the world, so to sell that many tickets for a pre-season match is incredible.”
The biggest crowd United have ever played in front of was 120,000 at the Bernabeu for a European Cup semi-final in April 1957. This will be the largest attendance they have played for since then.
