Nemanja Vidic scored a second half goal as Manchester United held 10-man Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw in their Champions League quarter-final first leg at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
Bayern enjoyed the lion’s share of possession almost the entire match without creating too many clear-cut chances, with Manchester forcing to chase the ball against the reigning European champions.
But the hosts took the lead just before the hour mark when the unmarked Nemanja Vidic stretched to clinically head a Rooney corner past stranded goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
However Bayern levelled just eight minutes later when Schweinsteiger, who was sent off late on for two bookable offences, was left unmarked on a break and lashed the ball into the roof of David De Gea’s net after substitute Mario Mandzukic nodded a cross from Rafinha into his path.
The German Giants finished the match with 10 men after Schweinsteiger picked up his second yellow of the night, ruling him out of the second leg along with Javi Martinez, also serve a ban after he picked up a third yellow card .
