Man United have been told that any move to re-sign Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo would cost an astonishing £140m to secure and as such the Daily Telegraph claim the Old Trafford side are ready to sell big earners in order to help meet the cost of such a transfer.
Louis van Gaal’s side would have to pay Real Madrid around £60m for the 29 year old and then cover his wage demands, which run at a phenomenal £380k a week, and in order to cover those costs star players may be sold.
The Dutch manager has admitted he’d be interested in bringing in Ronaldo and two players mentioned by this source, Juan Mata and Robin Van Persie, could be sold to help meet the costs of such a deal.
There is some uncertainty over Mata’s future at the club, the Spaniard yet to really prove himself since his move to Man United in January.
Robin Van Persie has less than two years left on his current contract and isn’t in the best of form.
The 31 year old returned from his World Cup exertions a little off the pace and has scored just once in four appearances thus far this term.
Another option is to end the club’s interest in making the loan signing of Radamel Falcao a permanent one, the Colombian on a reported £265k a week deal.
