Uzima Initiative brings hope and fulfillment to women and children. Malaria is one of the biggest causes of maternal and infant mortality in Uganda, Uzima has come up to join this fight with a vision of eradicating deaths attributed to malaria, the MALARIA AWARENESS CONCERT with JOEL SEBUNJO is a gesture to motivate the good people of Uganda to take an active role in protecting their families from this deadly disease, its also a driving force to everyone out there to ensure that they contribute in all ways possible and in their different capacities to the eradication of malaria in Uganda.
Uzima Initiative is a non-profit organisation registered and operating in Uganda. Uzima means LIFE in Swahili language and Uzima Initiative’s main mission is to “end malaria related deaths and poverty” mainly through prevention and treatment of malaria. Uzima is committed to minimize the impacts of malaria at social and economic levels in the country, to sustain high geographical coverage in the region, to educate communities about malaria; and to encourage communities to use of Insecticide Treated Mosquito Nets (ITNs).
Joel Sebunjo is one of Uganda’s best world music exports, with two albums; Ganda Mande Crossroads & Heart of a Griot released by the US based World Music Store label. His fusion of traditional African music with modern influences, effects & electronic loops is no doubt testament to this.
His new production “AFRICA IS THE FUTURE (In collaboration with the Uzima Initiative)” will be held on 8-Nov-2013 which is an exclusive one off appearance for his Kampala fans after a year round tour that took him to concert venues ranging from Paris to London.
Uzima Initiative will hold an auction will during the concert to raise funds and the proceeds will be used to reach out to HIV positive expectant & new mothers and their affected babies by providing ITNs to protect them against malaria. These beneficiaries are already under the support of OUTREACH MBUYA HIV PARISH.
This marks one of the very many campaigns against malaria that Uzima Initiative has planned to roll out in various parts of the country by partnering with major Uganda and International artistes to ensure that the message about malaria prevention is sent out to reach the beneficiaries for a change in our communities.
