South Africa’s Mafikizolo were the highlight of the evening on Friday as Absa Bank Uganda Limited hosted their customers and partners to a mega party in celebration of their launch at the Kampala Serena hotel.

The duo, NhlanhlaSibongile Mafu and Theo Kgosinkwe, who were the surprise act for the evening did not disappoint, delivering an energetic performance.

They had guests up on their feet and dancing with their popular songs like Ndihamba Nawe, Udakwa Njalo, Tchelete, and Khona among others.

Mafikizolo’s showcase was preceded by performances from Ugandan musicians, Irene Ntale and Fik Fameica. Ntale, strumming her guitar, entertained guests with some of her hit songs like Stay With Me, He Go Down, Kyolowoza, Gukubba, and Stamina Daddy among others that had the crowd singing along. On his part, Fameica had the crowd swaying along to his hit songs that included Property, Am different, Tubikole, and Omu Bwati among others.

The ceremony comes after Absa Bank Uganda, a subsidiary of Absa Group Limited received a license to operate and trade under its new name from Bank of Uganda.

Formerly known as Barclays Bank Uganda, the name change marks the start of a new era for the bank’s operations, one that sees the realisation of an ambition to become an independent African bank.

The license was officially handed over to the bank’s Managing Director, Nazim Mahmood by Prof. Emmanuel Mutebile, Governor, Bank of Uganda at the Central Bank head office on Monday last week.
