Struggling musician Mad Tiger, one of the pioneers of contemporary music in Uganda, recently attacked Ugandan media and DJs for not promoting Ugandan music.
According to Mad Tiger, Ugandan DJs ignore music from artistes at home and concentrate on promoting music of foreign artistes. “A Ugandan Dj can play Nigerian music the whole night and you wonder if there are no artistes in Uganda producing music,” said Mad Tiger.
He also added that Ugandan media promotes artistes in a negative way only and even exploit them instead of paying them. “In other countries, artistes are paid to do interviews with media houses but here in Uganda, it’s totally different. In fact some media houses ask money from upcoming artistes before doing interviews with them”, said Mad Tiger.
He concluded by requesting Ugandan media and DJs to be patriotic and promote their own musicians.
