Lweza Football Club stunned the league reigning champions Vipers Sports Club by 2-1 in a tie dubbed the Entebbe Road derby played at Muteesa II Memorial Stadium in Wankulukuku on Women’s Day.
The Kitende based side who host their games at Buikwe started off as the better side but were denied by Lweza’s custodian Charles Lwanga on several occasions.
Meanwhile, Lweza were forced into a first half substitution as Juma Balinya limped off the pitch to pave way for Hassan Kikoyo before FIFA referee Brain Miiro Nsubuga called the first half to an end with both sides failing to score.
In the second half, Sula Bagala scored a 69th minute strike to give the Kajjansi boys a well-deserved lead but Cranes’ forward Erisa Ssekisambu leveled matters for Vipers with just 5 minutes left on the clock to a full 90 minutes.
Second half substitute and Uganda Cranes star, Geoffrey Sserunkuma sent the Lweza fans into tears of joy when he notched a late winner in the fourth and final minute of added time to condemn the visitors to their fourth loss of the season.
The result elevated Lweza FC to 10th place on 25 points while Vipers SC missed a golden opportunity to reduce KCCA’s four point lead at the top of the league table as they remain on 31 points in second place. Nevertheless, Vipers still have a game in hand as compared to their title rivals of KCCA.
The league continues on Friday with various games to be played.
