Early Sunday morning, Luwemba, who once served as Ssegirinya’s aide, visited the former MP’s grave in Masaka, accompanied by a group of supporters. His mission was twofold: to seek divine intervention and, in a symbolic gesture, the late legislator’s blessing as he vies for the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.
This visit comes just two days before NUP is set to announce its official flag bearer for the highly contested Kawempe North parliamentary seat.
Dressed in a flowing white Islamic tunic, Luwemba arrived at Ssegirinya’s ancestral home at 10 AM, flanked by several political allies, including Bwaise 1 KCCA councillor Jamir Nsereko, Kasangati councillor Muhammad Kayabula, and Muwalim Hassan Kayizzi.
The atmosphere quickly turned emotional as mourners and supporters joined Luwemba’s entourage. Together, they proceeded to Ssegirinya’s grave, chanting songs urging the late MP’s spirit to arise and fight in their favor.
At the gravesite, Muwalim Hassan Kayizzi led the group in a Dua (Islamic prayer), asking God to grant Ssegirinya eternal peace in Jannah~ul Firdaus (Paradise). They also prayed for Luwemba’s success in securing the NUP ticket, believing that this spiritual connection to Ssegirinya could strengthen his bid.
Standing by the grave, a visibly emotional Luwemba addressed his late boss directly, urging him not to rest, but to continue fighting for the NUP ticket from the afterlife. He assured Ssegirinya that he remained loyal to his political vision and vowed to carry forward his legacy in Kawempe North.
“I am not a traitor, Luwemba declared. “I will fulfill the promises you made to the people of Kawempe North.”
Before leaving, Luwemba also reminded supporters about the upcoming 40-day Dua (prayer memorial) for Ssegirinya, set for March 2, 2025, urging all well-wishers to attend.
