The thief who swiped Lupita Nyong’o’s Oscars dress then angrily returned it claiming its pearls were fake will skirt any criminal prosecution.
Police confirmed Thursday that the case is now closed.
“The victim didn’t want to press charges,” a law enforcement source told the Daily News.
The source said someone from Calvin Klein took possession of the famous frock on Monday or Tuesday and said the crime didn’t need to be unraveled.
“We need to have a victim in order to investigate a crime. If the victim is not desirous, we only continue to investigate if domestic violence is involved,” the source said.
The source said surveillance video taken at the hotel where the stolen dress was found Friday afternoon didn’t provide any answers.
“There wasn’t any luck with that,” the source said.
The gorgeous gown was stolen from Lupita Nyong’o’s room at the London Hotel in West Hollywood last week and valued at $150,000 in the report taken by deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
