The odds are less than one in a million that your first gig in Hollywood will earn you an Oscar statuette; even fewer that a brand of lip balm would sell out in stores because it was seen in your hand.
That would be the world pulling a Lupita on you, wouldn’t it? Well, ever since this happened to Kenyan Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o under two years ago, glamour and pressure have gone hand in hand for the world’s most beautiful woman – as voted by Peoplemagazine in 2014.
But after you start from way up there, where do you go? Do you go for your second gig like Lupita did in Liam Neeson’s thriller Non-Stop? And how does she deal with it? How do you stop feeling that the only way to go is down? It’s all about perception of course.

Her amazing journey has now brought her to Africa. Uganda, South Africa and Kenya to be specific. Uganda to start shooting her latest film Queen of Katwe, South Africa to finish it off, and Kenya to kick off a personal effort in the fight against the trade in ivory, as a global ambassador with Wild Aid.
She told us that the Queen of Katwe is an inspiring narrative that has given her a new found respect for the game of chess.
Queen of Katwe tells the story of a young girl from Uganda who trains to become a world chess champion. It also stars Selma actor David Oyelowo.
Lupita’s homecoming has also involved a lot of mentorship work with girls and young women in Nairobi and in her home town in Kisumu.
