Luis Suarez Could Leave Liverpool

Suarez Luis

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been persistently linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Even though the Uruguay international himself said last month that he is committed to the Premier League outfit, there have been strong suggestions that Los Blancos will make a bid for the 27-year-old this summer.

Those reports were fuelled by Suarez’s lawyer and friend claiming last week that if Madrid come calling, then it would be difficult to say no.

‘A year ago he was very likely to leave Liverpool’, Alejandro Balbi told Cadena Ser. ‘Now I think it is very difficult because he is an idol, although clubs can offer a lot of money. If there is such a big offer from Real Madrid, it is very difficult to say no. Luis Suarez has always had a predisposition for Spain’.

Suarez will be representing his country Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil, and it is clear that any transfer will happen only after the gala tournament finishes. But will Suarez leave Liverpool at all? His latest comments suggest that he has still some unfinished business in England.

‘I want to change the bad boy image that has stuck for a bit because I don’t think I am at all how I have been portrayed’, he told Sports Illustrated when asked what he hopes to achieve in his career. ‘I would like that to change because it’s awful to hear and read what is said of you’.

Suarez was alluding to the multiple times that he has been portrayed as a villain in the English media. He joined Liverpool from Ajax in January 2011 and has gone onto establish himself as one of the best strikers in world football, but he has often been involved in controversies.

Racism row with Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, diving to earn penalties, trying to force his way out of Liverpool (last summer) – Suarez’s career in the Premier League has been replete with unsavoury incidents.

However, the Liverpool star seems keen on carrying on playing for his team as he has still something to prove. Yet suspicion lingers: what if Madrid do come calling…
