Launched in December this year, ‘Beera Millionaire with Airtel Money’, will run for 90 days and is set to reward all customers that carry out a financial transaction such as Cash In, Cash out, P2P, Recharge Airtime or Data, Bank to Wallet, Wallet to Bank & Bill Payment in a single day, as well as all active financial transacting agents.

During the handover, a business lady, photographer, journalist and electrician, all from Kampala were joined by a teacher from Mbale, a farmer from Mukono, a trader from Mityana, a driver from Kakiri, a mobile money agent from Kawempe and many other winners to celebrate as they received their cash from the Airtel Uganda’s Head of Revenue Planning Mr. Michael Lukyamuzi.

Some of the winners here today transacted for as little as ten thousand shillings and now they have become millionaires,” Lukyamuzi remarked.

“I encourage everyone to spread this good news. Inform your family and friends to keep transacting using our platform and change your lives,” he concluded.

As part of the ongoing promotion, all participating customers and agent numbers will be uploaded into a randomizer to pick the lucky winners. Five lucky customers will win 1 million shillings each (5 million shillings daily, 1 million for each) and 1 lucky customer will win 10 million shillings in the weekly grand draw. 1 lucky agent will stand a chance to win 1 million shillings daily and 1 lucky agent will win 1 motorbike in the weekly draw.

MTN Uganda eases Mobile Money transfer to All Networks

Published

By Staff Writer
In the year 2017, Bank of Uganda directed all Mobile Money operations in Uganda to be interoperable between the telecommunications companies operating in Uganda. This move was aimed at ensuring that customers from different networks would be able to seamlessly send and receive funds directly across all networks.

MTN Uganda embarked on this integration with other operators starting with Phase 1 which involved the onboarding of Airtel followed by Phase 2 which involved the onboarding of Africell. MTN Uganda has today announced that it has completed (the final) Phase 3 which has seen UTL being switched on, making MTN the first telco in Uganda to fully comply with the Bank of Uganda initiative.

Speaking at MTN Nyonyi Gardens, Elsa Muzzolini, MTN’s General Manager Mobile Financial Services, expressed joy at the momentous move which was aimed at customers experiencing simplicity and efficiency in mobile money transactions across all networks.

“Now that we have completed this third and final stage, we believe that the winner in all this is the MTN Mobile Money customer who will experience a seamless user experience because they will now be able to send money to all mobile money networks in Uganda without extra hustles” said Elsa.

“We further believe, in line with our group strategy, that this move will drive financial inclusion and ensure digitization of cash transfer in the ecosystem while also fostering efficiency of payments. Because everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life, mobile money transfers should neither be prohibitive or discriminatory.”

With this move, it means that MTN Mobile Money customers can now send and receive money from MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money, Africell Money and now M-Sente customers, directly on their mobile phones.

In a related development, MTN Uganda has also integrated with regional operators in Kenya and Rwanda to enable MTN Mobile Money customers to send and receive money around the East African region – specifically to MTN Rwanda and Safaricom MPesa – with Tanzania to be on boarded in early 2019.

To send money the customer dials *165*1# and selects International Transfer. This is another first from MTN Uganda.

MTN Mobile Money has been at the forefront of driving financial inclusion in Uganda. As 2019 approaches, the popularity of mobile money transfer services will continue to rise amongst Uganda’s social and business population. This will largely be supported by increasing adoption of mobile payments as well as an increasing need for cashless transactions.

The ever-vibrant Kampala nightlife will yet again welcome another new nightspot this weekend. This comes after we learnt that Cielo Lounge, a rooftop bar located at The Cube, Kisementi will officially open its doors to the public on Saturday, December 22nd.

According to Henok Goito, one of the directors at the bar establishment, Cielo Lounge was designed from scratch, converting an open space into a marvel of a hangout.

“This was an empty space and we built this lounge up from scratch,” he relayed as he gave media a tour of the lounge. “It took us one year to design this place and make it come alive.”

The lounge whose name translates to “heavens above” is located on the 5th floor of The Cube building. It is vast with glass walls, and allows for sitting both inside and outside. It also boasts of  a water fountain which encloses the VIP section.

“The idea is that nothing should constrict your view to the outside so that wherever you decide to sit in the bar you will still have a nice view. This why we even have no tall fridges at this bar.” He added.

The roottop bar which will be open 24/7 also doubles as a restaurant serving lunch and dinner with local foods as their main menu.

The grand opening ceremony will be hosted by comedian Patrick Salvado.
