Revelers turned up in low numbers as Maurice Kirya staged his highly anticipated 2016 concert dubbed “Kirya Live” at Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday evening. Despite the glaring empty seats at Victoria Hall, the self-proclaimed “King of Mwooyo” did not disappoint as he went on to give his fans a memorable evening.
With no curtain raisers, Maurice Kirya stepped on stage at exactly 9pm dressed in an all-black ensemble – black jeans, sleeveless shirt and leather jacket. He put up an energetic performance as he took revelers through his music journey doing songs from his early singing days in 2004 to songs from his most recent music album “Mwooyo”(2015), and even sampled songs off his upcoming album.
Maurice Kirya had fans, most of which had abandoned their seats and drawn closer to the stage, dancing till they sweated and almost singing themselves hoarse as they seemed to know the lyrics to all the songs he performed. From “Misubbaawa”, to “Boda Boda”, to “Beera Naabo” to his most recent songs like “Horses in the Sky” and “Nkooye” among others, the elated crowd cheered on and on with every song.
The concert climaxed at 11pm with Maurice Kirya showing off his father as he thanked his fans for supporting him.
He staged a powerful two-hour live performance, only taking a break to showcase new talent by giving platform to fast rising Afro-soul singer Kenneth Mugabi who performed his single “Naki”.
