The Queen of Katwe movie premiere after party had no promotion and no there were no tickets on sale for this party. But for those who were lucky or connected enough to score an invitation to this A-list party it was an amazing night to remember.

Immediately after the Ugandan premiere of the Queen of Katwe at Century Cinemax (Acacia Mall) there was a private after party that took place at the Sky Lounge Rooftop hosted by Talent Africa, Maisha Film Lab and Pemba Sports Africa.

The glamorous red carpet affair was star studded to the maximum. Some of the celebrities that attended the event included the main cast of Queen of Katwe. Academy award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Daniel Oyelowo and newcomer Madina Nalwanga. Acclaimed Hollywood Director Mira Nair and Disney Executive Vice President of Production Tendo Nagenda also attended the gala.

Other celebrities included former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Captain Mike Mukula, Elly Karuhanga, Bobi Wine, Bebe Cool, Aly Allibhai, Sylvia Namutebi, Jack Pemba, Navio, A Pass, Maurice Kirya, Isaac Rucci, Ambrose Tashobya, Cedric Babu, Dr Ian Clarke, Salvado and many others.

Gaetano Kaggwa was the event emcee and helped auction autographed posters and photo opportunities with the main cast of Queen of Katwe.

All the proceeds raised from the auction went towards the Maisha Film Lab which is a non-profit training initiative for emerging East African filmmakers.

It was followed by energetic performances by Young Cardamom & Hab, Swahili Nation, Navio and Bobi Wine until DJ Crisio finally took over and opened the dancefloor. The highlight of the night is when the entire cast came on stage and danced during Young Cardamom’s & HAB performance of “#1 Spice” from the Queen of Katwe movie sound track.

Check out the highlight video of the event below.
