Liverpool moved to the top of the table as they made it eight consecutive wins in the Barclays Premier League with a fine 4-0 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers’ team, who enjoyed the lion’s share of possession early in the first half , went ahead after two minutes with an own goal by Spurs defender Younes Kaboul ,following Glen Johnson’s low cross.
Luis Suarez’s 29th goal of the season in the 25th minute doubled the lead before Brazilian Philippe Coutinho scored the third early in the second half and Jordan Henderson completed the rout quarter of an hour from the end.
The result means the Reds back to the summit and moved a step closer to a first league title since 1990; they are now two points ahead of Chelsea with a much better goal difference and four clear of Manchester City, who have two games in hand.
Tottenham have now only won six of 71 league matches at Anfield and they have also beaten nine unanswered goals against Liverpool this season.
