Last week, at the Comedy Store show, Bebe Cool raised eyebrows with his daring fashion choice—a luxurious ripped sweater paired with baggy leather pants and Gucci boots, a style commonly known as ‘distressed’ attire.
This sartorial statement sparked a flurry of public controversy and criticism.
In a recent interview on NBS After5, singer Lil Pazo came forward staunchly in support of Bebe Cool, attributing the backlash to societal frustrations and ignorance about evolving fashion trends. Pazo highlighted that some individuals’ criticism stemmed from poverty frustration and a lack of appreciation for Bebe Cool’s distinctive style.
“People combined their hatred for Bebe Cool and their poverty frustration. It was such an expensive design but people here don’t understand it. People don’t want change. They want you to sing but also dress like them, not being unique like Bebe Cool,” Lil Pazo articulated during the interview.
Pazo, known for hits like “Enkudi,” emphasized that Bebe Cool’s willingness to embrace unconventional fashion choices has been a hallmark of his career in the entertainment industry. Despite the controversy, Bebe Cool remains steadfast in his commitment to pushing boundaries and maintaining his unique identity through bold fashion statements.
Bebe Cool’s audacious fashion sense continues to polarize opinions, yet it undeniably underscores his reputation as a trendsetter unafraid of taking risks in the pursuit of artistic expression.
This incident once again raises questions about the intersection of celebrity, fashion, and public perception in Uganda’s vibrant entertainment scene.
