Airtel Uganda’s CSR campaign ‘Together We Can’ emerged winner in the ‘CSR Campaign of the Year’ category at the 2015/2016 PRAU Excellence Awards held at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala.

The awards, which are held to recognize and celebrate Public Relations and communications excellence in Uganda, were presided over by Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, the Minister of ICT, and attended by public and private companies, industry personalities as well as top Ugandan Public Relations firms.

In order to win an award for Best Corporate Social Responsibility Campaign, companies were tasked to submit entries that portrayed projects designed around a Corporate Social Responsibility policy on community involvement, social, ethical and reputational issues. Additionally, the entries had to have had tangible benefits to the communities.

Mr. Anwar Soussa, the Airtel Uganda Managing Director expressed joy and gratitude to the association for recognizing this life-changing campaign.

“The great impact it created not only to the individuals that had been nominated as beneficiaries but to the communities at large deemed ‘Together We Can’ worthy of this award,” he said, before thanking the entire Airtel Uganda team, partners and most importantly, the local communities for their contribution towards the campaign.

‘Together We Can’ was launched in October 2015 with an intention of exploring the different issues being faced by Ugandans such as poverty, poor health, lack of education, poor housing and how certain individuals in the different communities had come out to champion the fight against these issues despite having minimal resources.

Scheduled to run for 52 weeks, the TV show exposed different issues being faced in the communities and people who had gone the extra mile to ensure that community members live normal and fulfilling lives.

Airtel Uganda travelled from community to community to hand over essential items to the nominees to enable them to continue doing this important work in the communities. Items handed over included wheel chairs for the disabled, blankets and food for the poor, newly built houses for the displaced or homeless and wells to ensure adequate clean water.

Many of the beneficiaries also received assistance from different institutions and individuals as a result of the exposure that came from the episodes that were aired.
