It is not a result many expected from league leaders Kampala Capital City Authority FC as they hosted league debutants The Saints FC who stunned them with a 2-1 defeat on Tuesday evening at Nakivubo Stadium.
The Moses Basena-coached side looked lethal from the start with Alex Kitata heading them into the lead in the 25th minute.
While The Saints squandered away more goal scoring opportunities that would have seen them extend their lead, Akinyemi fired the Kasasiro boys back to level with a low shot that beat custodian Anyama in the visitors’ goal in the 41st minute.
A few moments later, the Saints attacked in full force with Kirabira making an attempt on goal but his shot was handled by KCCA defender in the area leaving the center referee with no choice but to point at the spot. Ivan Kiweewa aka Kaloolo rose to the occasion converting from twelve yards to restore the visitors’ lead just a minute to halftime and ending it 2-1 by recess.
Efforts from both sides in the second half were fruitless by the blow of the final whistle.
The loss denied the leaders KCCA FC from stretching their lead at the top to 12 points, leaving them at 51 points from 25 games. The victory on the other hand put The Saints FC to 27 points from 24 games but with no change in position on the 16-team log where they lie 13th.
