It’s been a week since the league took a break as the Uganda Cranes headed out for the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup even when a few matches have been played in what seems to be a break for many.
The break has affected many clubs with more than two players on the national team for CECAFA among other fixtures, and this comes after a return from the two-week long FIFA international break that saw Uganda face off with Togo in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Before that, the league also had a three-week long break in October as Uganda played Sudan in the final bend of the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers. It is such events that have gotten to the nerves of some Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) managers, with many critiquing the breaks.
First it was Edward Golola of Vipers SC, then Mike Mutebi and Sam Ssimbwa of KCCA FC and now Wasswa Bbosa of Express FC is the latest to express his concerns about the constant league breaks.
“The league breaks are affecting our momentum. The players can’t be match fit with such breaks but we hope game against Bright Stars will offer something,” Wasswa Bbosa said as he justified his side’s upcoming friendly match against Kawempe based side, Bright Stars. The friendly is slated for Friday November 27th at Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku at 4pm.
