Highly renowned for transforming Uganda’s football, former Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) president Lawrence Mulindwa yesterday afternoon lost the CECAFA presidential election.
Mulindwa lost to Sudan’s Dr. Mutasim Jaffer who won with a count of 6-votes as compared to his three votes from the total 10-voting nations during an election exercise conducted yesterday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where the regional football governing body held its congress.
Mutasim takes over from Tanzania’s Leodega Tenga who led the regional body for two terms (Eight years).
The result means that Mulindwa who has been the vice President to Tenga, will now have to wait for the next four years before launching another presidential bid.
FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo voted on behalf of Uganda as stipulated by the voting rules (Only federation presidents/football leaders from member countries vote) but it’s not known whether he voted his former boss.
