Andrew Mugisha, an irish potato farmer, has won the ultimate UGX 75 million prize in UBL's Kyusa Levo promotion.

By Our Reporter

“Congratulations, you are the Grand Winner of 75000000 UGX in the Kyusa Levo Promotion brought to you by Uganda Breweries Ltd. You will be contacted by UBL to receive your award.”

How would you react if you received this message?

For Andrew Mugisha, a former law student and irish potato farmer, the reaction was utter shock when he found out that he had emerged the ultimate winner of UGX 75 million in Uganda Breweries Limited’s Kyusa Levo promotion.

“It was lunch time when I received the message, and I immediately lost my appetite. I couldn’t believe it. I lost words. I froze. I went back and counted the zeros. They were too many. Then the next day, the brand manager called me to confirm.”

Mugisha, whose drink of choice is Uganda Waragi premium, recently finished his law degree at Islamic University in Uganda and decided to go back to Kisoro – his home village – to engage in small scale irish potato farming as he awaits his graduation.

He says he plans to invest the cash into his farming project and hopes that 20 years from now, he will still be able to earn from the cash prize.

“I plan to continue doing what I’ve been doing, but on a bigger scale. I intend to acquire more land and grow more irish. My life has definitely changed and I am super excited for that.”

He added, “I would like to convey a very big thank you to the entire family at UBL and to wish them a happy 75th birthday. To the public, I encourage them to continue participating because the promotion is still going on.”

Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has also provided a financial advisor to guide Mugisha as he embarks on this journey.

The promotion, which was launched on the 9th of March, is part of UBL’s 75th anniversary celebrations as the company gives back to its consumers to appreciate them for moving with them through the last 75 years.

Hillary Baguma, UBL’s brand manager for Mainstream Spirits said, “We are very excited to have gotten the winner of the grand prize. So far, we have given cash prizes to over 72,000 winners from all over Uganda as we continue to give back to our consumers – for standing with us throughout the last 75 years and also to give them a helping hand following the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

He added that the promotion will go on up to the 15th of July 2021 and consumers can still win cash prizes ranging from UGX 5,000 to UGX 7,500,000.

To participate, customers who purchase a 200ml bottle of Uganda Waragi, Bond 7 and V&A should check under the closure for a code, then dial *255*23# and follow the prompts to stand a chance to win.
