If you have a soft ear for creative, well-baked words churned out by a human with a working brain, if you ran up the wall and smacked yourself hard in the face in angst because Kwivuga had sunk in oblivion, then, dear reader, you might slip out of your skin and jump in delight because Kwivuga is back! It premiered on Monday evening at, yes, another venue, the popular Legends Bar.
The turn up was the usual Kwivuga community, teeming with the same folk who will climb up their stools, throw liquids at the back of their throats, engage in loud banter and only applaud the poet after he/she has finished the recital. They came in relatively large numbers; decked out in their after-class attire with joyous faces. And they scattered about Legends sitting space, slouched around tables with drinks and food before them.
The night was quite a unique one. Seeing Kwivuga drifting back in our routine carried itself with much needed delight because, ah, Mondays have never been known to be days of ululation. The idea of squeezing it on a Monday worked magic, at least for me. Well, spoken word artists came on board to unveil the newly born baby that is Kwivuga. The night’s emcee, RoshanKarmali from Poetry In Session, offered a smooth transition from poet-to-poet with her two cents of wit and humor. She read her own poems as well. The night saw performances from Gloria, Nunu, Slim Emcee, Jason Ntalo, Ruyonga et al. But the highlight of the night came with Spirit Soul’s performance. Her crooning worked the audience and the night, for that matter. Kwivuga will be back on 3rd November 2014. Calendars should be marked here.
