Rhumba maestro and the official “bad boy of Kinshasa” Koffi Olomide was released from prison on Thursday.
This was after a judge in the DRC capital handed the Selfie hit singer an 18-month sentence for physically abusing one of his female dancers at JKIA in Nairobi last week.
His arrest on Tuesday at his palatial home at Mon Fleur Estate in Kinshasa (and the subsequent sentencing) was a shock to many of his fans despite the wide public outrage following his actions in Nairobi.
Following the ugly incident at the airport, Koffi was arrested by Kenyan police officers, locked up for a night and deported to Congo the following day.
He was later arrested at his home by the Congo police and taken to court, where a judge sentenced him to a year-and-a-half in prison.
However, the singer was released from the prison a day later in unclear circumstances.
It seems Koffi was happy to be home again.
“At Home with family. …. thank you is a word too simple. What I would like to express is above it. I am both touched and grateful for the unwavering support that you have brought me, I can never thank you enough #Bétonarmé #Agbada, [sic],” Koffi wrote on his social media pages on Saturday.
Earlier on Sunday morning, he posted: “I’ve been through, I understand… Thank God. Happy Sunday to all and to all..[sic].”
