Uganda Kobs

By James Robert Kayindi

The highly anticipated friendly match between the Uganda Kobs and Tunisia has been called off due to insufficient funds.

Reports coming in from sources close to the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) reveal that the Uganda U-23 national team was set to have a friendly match against Tunisia’s U-23 but the match has been cancelled.

The buildup match was to test the Kobs before they clash with Egypt in the U-23 Africa Championship qualifiers that is due 17th -19th July 2015 in Alexandria before the return leg on the weekend of 1st August 2015.

Sources indicated that the costs for the friendly which included about $22,500 for travel tickets and other utilities amounting to about $7,500 appeared so expensive for the federation to incur.

However, the local football governing body is yet to issue any official statement confirming the reports.

The two sides (Uganda and Egypt) will clash over two legs for a slot at the Africa-U-23 Championship finals that will be played in Senegal due late November and early December 2015.
