Jazz maestro Kirk Whalum, the headlining act for this year’s edition of the annual Nile Gold Jazz Safari, has landed safely in the country. The Grammy award winner who travelled with his full band arrived last evening and was welcomed at Entebbe airport by the concert organizers.
Kirk Whalum is an American smooth jazz saxophonist and songwriter. He has recorded a series of well received solo albums and film soundtracks, with music ranging from pop to R&B to smooth jazz.
Kirk’s musical accomplishments have brought him a total of 12 Grammy nominations. He won his first Grammy award in 2011 for Best Gospel Song (“It’s What I Do”, featuring Lalah Hathaway) alongside lifelong friend and gifted writer, Jerry Peters.
Meanwhile, another headlining act, Karyn White who was also expected to arrive last evening is said to have missed her flight and is now expected to arrive today. Karyn is popularly known for her smash hit Superwoman, and is the first female artist to have her first three solo releases hit No.1 on the R&B charts.
The Nile Gold Jazz safari, now in its 8th edition, is a celebration of Jazz and Soul Music in Uganda. This year’s event is slated for this Friday, 2nd October at Kampala Serena Hotel with tickets going for 350K(Paltinum) and 200K(Gold).
