Commonwealth 10,000m champion, Moses Kipsiro has rejected a police guard assigned to him by the Uganda Police for his personal protection.

According to reports, the great athlete was offered state security following an order by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen Aronda Nyakairima.

“One guard is meant to keep his home while the other is supposed to move with him,” Pamela Ankunda, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs told the Daily Monitor.

It should remembered that the Uganda National Athletics team captain Moses Kipsiro pulled out of the World Cross Country championships that were in Guiyang, China following threats on his life.

It’s the persistence of these threats on his life that the runner went to the minister for help.

“When I went to the General, he immediately suggested that I be given security. I felt so relieved and honoured because he was one of the first few prominent people to listen to my cries. The others cared less,” Kipsiro remarked.

He has however rejected the bodyguard (Rashid Cheptai) accorded to him after finding out that the guard is a close friend to Wemali after they trained together at Masindi Police Training School.
