Ugandan musicians Eddy Kenzo, Juliana Kanyomozi, Jose Chameleone, Bebe Cool, Irene Ntale and Mathias Walukagga have all received nominations in the Kora Awards.
Kenzo leads Ugandans with 2 nods for his song “Zigido” which was nominated for both Best Video and Best Male artiste East Africa. He will battle fellow Ugandan singer Chameleone whose “Wale Wale” video was nominated in the Best Video category.
Juliana (Woman) and Irene Ntale (Kabugo) will both compete for Best Female artiste East Africa along with other top singers in the region.
Mathias Walukagga is nominated for his song “Embaga ya kiwugulu” in the Best male traditional artist Africa category.
And finally Bebe Cool’s acclaimed 2105 album, “Go Mama” is nominated in the best album category.
The KORA Awards have been staged twelve times on the African Continent. For the first ten years, the ceremony has taken place in South Africa. It has since moved to Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire. The next edition of the KORA All-Africa Music Awards will be held on March 20th, 2016 in Windhoek, Namibia.
The organisers have this year introduced a grand prize of a million US Dollars for the ultimate winner of the African Artist of the Year category. Additionally, various category and genre winners will all take home between USD 25000 and USD 50,000 dependent on the category.
