Kenya’s Afro-fusion King, Eric Wainaina is set to light up the ninth edition of the Tusker Malt Lager sponsored Blankets and Wine Kampala slated for May 3, 2015 at the Uganda Museum grounds in Kampala.
A household name in his native Kenya, Wainaina will perform at the highly anticipated quarterly, picnic style event alongside Uganda’s singing duo, Radio and Weasel of the Goodlyfe Crew, Suzan Kerunen and Janzi Band.
Wainaina has a reputation for speaking the truth to those in power. His song ‘Nchi Ya Kitu Kidogo’, released way back in 2001 is a powerful indictment of corruption and the kick-back culture that had blighted Kenyan politics.
Arguably East Africa’s best duo, Moze Radio and Weasel have been consistent over the years churning out big hits often. In 2013, they became Uganda’s first ever BET awards nominees in the Best International Artist (Africa) category.
Their songs likeNeera, Ntunga, Hellena plus old hits like Nakudata, Nyumbani, Nyambura, Zuena, Bread and Butter, Amaaso and Magnetic are still popular with the Ugandan and East African audience. Their performance at the ninth edition of Blankets and Wine will be much anticipated.
Also scheduled to perform is Suzan Kerunen and Janzi Band. Kerunen, a two time Kora Awards nominee writes and performs African contemporary music in Alur, her mother tongue. She uses Njige, Agwara and Ndara drums from West Nile which gives her music rich African sounds
Suzan Kerunen is a great musician and one of the most respected world music artists because of the type of songs she performs.
