League holders Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC kept their hopes of winning a double this season alive as they edged Kyambogo 4-1 on penalties in the Uganda Cup quarter finals.
Despite the hosts taking a 40th minute lead through Brain Kayemba to hold it 1-0 at half time, the ‘Kasasiro boys’ managed to put the game to level (1-1) when striker Herman Wasswa scored from 12yards in the 48th minute. The spot kick came after skipper Baker Lukooya was fouled in the forbidden area by Kyambogo’s goalie Joseph Etyang.
The game saw the rest of its playtime fruitless for both sides before heading into extra time that the Uganda Premier League side dominated despite failure to convert their chances.
The final whistle was blown before either side could see the net for the second time which called for penalties. In the penalty shootout, KCCA came out on top with a 4-1 score to send Kyambogo packing.
KCCA now joins SC villa who had earlier beat Victoria University 1-0 to storm into the semi-finals where Bul fc and Lweza were already waiting.
The semi-final draws will be held on Wednesday at the FUFA house in Mengo, Kampala during the weekly press conference.
KCCA XI: Benjamin Ochan (GK), Isaac Ntege, Ibrahim Kizza, Sakka Mpiima, Habib Kavuma (Joseph Ochaya), Hakim Ssenkumba, Owen Kasule, Michael Birungi (Paul Mucureezi), William Wadri (Martin Kizza), Baker Lukooya and Herman Wasswa.
