It’s a new year and new changes are expected, at least that is all we see at league leader’s side Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC).
First it was the mega January signing of the on-form striker Ceasar Samson Okhuti from league rivals Express FC to boost the Kasasiro boys’ striking line as we wait for the second round of the league.
And now, just a day after unveiling their new sponsorship deal with ‘Prime Media’, the club’s head coach Mike Mutebi and his deputy Sam Ssimbwa went ahead to name 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup winner Dennis Okot as the new club captain.
The former SC Villa and SC Victoria University right wing back will be deputized by left-footed winger Joseph Ochaya as the duo take over from Tom Masiko and Saka Mpiima respectively.
“For the good of the club, we have unanimously decided to appoint Okot as the new club captain. His discipline, committed displays on the pitch and exemplary demeanor off the field make him the model captain that fits in the billing of a traditional club like KCCA,” Mike Mutebi explained on the club’s official website.
The decision was welcomed by the club chairman Julius Kabugo and also applauded by FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo who said; “It gives us joy at the national team that our core players have been given challenging roles at their various clubs. While in Ethiopia for CECAFA, I talked to Okot and Ochaya after the loss to Kenya, and their response thereafter led us to CECAFA victory. KCCA have made a well thought choice indeed!”
