League reigning champions, Kampala Capital City Authority FC crushed Express Football Club 3-1 in a City rivalry clash on Tuesday evening at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo in the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL).
Despite the heavy afternoon downpour that delayed the start of the game by about 20 minutes, it didn’t stop the two arch rivals from going heads on as the Kasasiro Boys continue with their title defence while the Red Eagles further their quest for a seventh league title.
Muzamiru Mutyaba opened the scoring for the hosts just thirteen minutes into the opening half before lethal striker Robert Ssentongo doubled the lead just a minute later to make it 2-0.
Express struggled to settle in the game in the first twenty minutes before Ibrahim Sadam Juma pulled one back for them with a half volley from the outside of the 18-yard box to make it 2-1 inside twenty five minutes.
It remained 2-1 by halftime and long way into the second half not until dangerous substitute, Geoffrey Sserunkuma hammered the last nail in the visitors’ coffin with a cool finish off Musamali’s cross to make it 3-1 in the 85th minute.
The massive victory was the Yellow boys first over the Wankulukuku based side since 2012/2013, keeping them top of the league table with 18 points from seven games while their opponents slipped to 5th place with 11 points from a similar number of games.
