Defender Fahad Kawooya will skipper KCCA FC when they face El Merreikh in Khartoum, Sudan, this weekend in the first leg tie of the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
“We have selected Kawooya to captain the team because of his good leadership qualities,” said coach George Nsimbe after releasing the names of 18 players who will travel this evening through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The talented Kawooya, who has been in and out of the Cranes team, takes over the armband from experienced Hassan Mawanda Wasswa, who still has unresolved issues with the team since absconding for three months while in Vietnam.
Nsimbe told MTNFootball.com this afternoon that they are now ready for battle and no one should write them off to get a win in Khartoum.
“Yes we respect El Merreikh because they are an experienced team with several good players. But we are more than determined to do well since we are returning to the Champions League after some time,” added the coach.
The KCCA team will also look to veteran defender Richard Malinga and Cranes players who featured in the recent Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), Brian Majwega and Ivan Ntege.
