Hon. Ssegirinya Muhammad, the Kawempe North Member of Parliament, has passed away this morning at Lubaga Hospital after battling a prolonged illness for close to four years.
Ssegirinya rose to prominence as a dedicated public servant and activist, often advocating for the rights of ordinary Ugandans.
Born in Kampala, he started his political career as a vocal councilor for Kawempe, where he gained the nickname “Mr. Updates” due to his active social media engagement.
He was elected as the Kawempe North MP in the 2021 general elections under the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, where he continued to fight for improved health services, education, and the welfare of his constituents.
Ssegirinya’s journey in politics was characterized by his grassroots approach and his humorous yet passionate speeches, which earned him widespread admiration.
However, his tenure as an MP was overshadowed by health struggles that saw him in and out of hospitals, both locally and abroad.
More details about funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
