Former Super Eagles captain Kanu Nwankwo over the weekend had a corrective heart surgery in Ohio, USA.
Kanu during his playing days was diagnosed of having a hole in his heart that almost threatened his playing career, when he was still at Italian side Inter Milan.
It is understood that Kanu underwent the surgery at the same hospital he had the first one in Cleveland in 1997.
Co-ordinator of Kanu Heart Foundation(set up to cater for people with heart defects), Pastor Onyebuchi Abia confirmed that the former Nigerian international had surgery, and that he is recuperating very well having left the intensive care unit.
“He’ll be back home in a few days time’’, Abia said in a statement.
“I spoke with him Sunday afternoon and he confirmed he’s in a stable condition.”
“Even from his hospital bed, he expressed profound gratitude to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for the award bestowed on him during the Centenary Award Ceremony in Abuja.” Nigerian Bulletin
